It was purchased to replace a 18V battery operated trimmer that would not last very long on a charge, even with two batteries and a hi-power charger most of the time it petered out before finishing around our house which sits on a small 60 x 80 lot. The disadvantage of using an extention cord is quickly offset by the power and ease of use of this trimmer. It was a good thing that the old trimmer broke because I didn't know how much I was missing. After reading all the reviews online, I ended up with the Earthwise trimmer. I agree with a lot of the reviewers. I like the power it has to cut through thick grass. I also like the semi-automatic line feeder rather than the fully automatic. Automatic line feeders have tendency to waste trim line, this one doesn't have that problem. Every time the trimmer winds down, it feeds the line forward just by an inch. This is a very nice feature and good balance between fully automatic and bumping the trimmer head. I was able to trim my yard much faster than before because the line didn't break at all. Remember that the line is forwarded every time you stop, that feeds just enough line that I never had to stop to reset the line.
